Tour Description

Christianity developed in the old Gaelic kingdom of Moylurg, and the Boyle and Loch Cé area, from about the 6th century with followers of St Patrick being followed by Cistercians, Augustinians and Premonstratensian monks from the 12th century onwards. The Annals of Loch Cé, a Chronicle of Irish Affairs from A.D. 1014 to A.D. 1590, were written on Trinity island – one of 3 monastic islands on this beautiful lake close to the town of Boyle. The magnificent Boyle Abbey became a military post and, in time, Boyle became a significant military town for the Connaught Rangers regiment of the British Army.

You can learn about this rich monastic and military heritage with a personal tour of the Kingdom of Moylurg and a visit to the unique King House museum and cultural centre.
